Frequently Asked Questions

How will I know whether Physiotherapy Services are right for me?

A licensed Physiotherapist will complete a screening assessment with you to figure out areas where we can help you improve. The Physiotherapist will set up goals and a treatment plan with you (and your family member/POA if needed).

What types of conditions can be helped by Physiotherapy Services?

Our Physiotherapists are trained and experienced in assessment and treatment of a variety of conditions, such as strokes, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, fractures (with or without surgery), arthritis, lung disease, and many more.

Why would I need Physiotherapy Services?

Physiotherapy Services can help you to manage a range of conditions or diagnoses. You can expect to see improvements in safety, pain and stiffness, walking pattern, strength, balance, endurance, and/or overall day-to-day function.

Where will I receive Physiotherapy Services?

We will come to see you in your home. We will bring the equipment we need to provide safe and convenient treatment. At times, we may use equipment and space in the common areas of the Retirement Community

What is included in the treatment sessions?

Depending on your goals and condition, types of treatments may include:

  • Education for correct posture and ways to decrease stress through your joints
  • Transfer training for safe movement from one place to another within your home
  • Safety training on steps or curbs
  • Pain management treatment, including ultrasound, electrotherapy, and hot packs
  • Targeted exercises to improve balance and strength in key muscle groups, to decrease risk for falls
  • Range of motion treatment to improve flexibility and joint mobility
  • Access to canes, walkers, and other equipment
Who will be involved in my care?

You will be assessed by a Physiotherapist, who will work together with you and your family to create goals and a treatment plan. A Physiotherapist Assistant will then carry out the treatment plan. The Physiotherapist will be in close communication with the Physiotherapist Assistant to monitor your progress toward goals. The Physiotherapist will return periodically to reassess your level of function and adjust your treatment plan, if needed.

How do I sign up for Physiotherapy Services?

There are a couple of ways you can let us know that you would like to schedule a screening assessment with the Physiotherapist:

Do I need to complete any paperwork before I start?

When you contact us, we will provide more information on how to get started.

Who pays for Physiotherapy Services?

If you have Extended Health Benefits (e.g., Blue Cross, Desjardins, Great-West Life, other benefit plans), we will direct bill where possible.

How can I be sure that Physiotherapy Services will be covered by my benefits plan?

Clinicians at BiM Health are registered health professionals. They will be recognized under extended medical plans that cover physiotherapy services. Residents/families should refer to their specific Extended Medical Plan coverage for details on physiotherapy services and coverage available. Some services cannot be charged through direct billing. In this case, BiM Health provides a medical receipt on request to be used for reimbursement.

How will I know when I have completed the number of physiotherapy treatments allowed by my benefits plan?

We will track the number of visits and your Physiotherapist or Physiotherapist Assistant will let you know when you are approaching the end of your treatment. They will discuss options with you and ways to maintain the improvements you have made.
